Ventnor is a picturesque Victorian seaside town with the beautiful backdrop of the Downs and easy access to coastal walks. Ventnor was voted one of ten locations on the Isle of Wight which secured 'excellent' in the Solent Water Quality Awards in 2016

Many of the buildings on the island where built mid 19th century when Queen Victoria chose the island for her holiday residence at Osborne House.

The 7 miles coastline from Bonchurch to Blackgang in Chale has been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Things to do in Ventnor

  • Situated in the far south of the Isle of Wight, Ventnor is known for its mild climate and is within walking distance of the renowned Ventnor Botanic Gardens. At Ventnor seafront you can take a ride out to sea and go lobster catching at Ocean Blue Quay  - Sea Charters. There are two beaches accessible from the cottage - Ventnor beach with its many shops and bars on the seafront or the quieter Bonchurch beach in Monks Bay.
  • Ventnor is now becoming known for its festivals - in August The Ventnor Fringe and for the Round the Island Race, held in June /July time, Ventnor has great viewing points to watch the hundreds of sails go by. The cottage itself has a fabulous view of this.
  • There's also a tennis court, putting green, cricket club and golf club, with a paddling pool on the seafront and a donkey sanctuary a short drive away.

Eating In Ventnor                    

  • The town itself has many shops, restaurants and facilities.
  • For a nautical experience visit the Spyglass Inn at the end of the esplanade with an extensive menu with daily specials and a children's menu. For a tasty evening meal try Cantina. For a family meal out The Bistro in the Pier street has a good seafood menu. For a romantic meal out The Ale and Oyster is ideal for couples - and for afternoon tea we recommend The Royal. For children Besty and Spinkys next to the paddling pool is ideal. For coffee lovers, Toni's Tea Room has a good selection of cakes and snacks, right on the Esplanade. Ideal if you are waiting to check in at the cottage.

Further afield

  • If you fancy a stomp out we would recommend The Taverners in Godshill - about an hour and half by foot or ten minutes by car. Great food in a family run gastro pub.  Also highly recommended is family run Bonchurch Inn serving Italian food. This is within walking distance of the cottage through the picturesque neighbouring village of Bonchurch.

Transport

  • The island has good rail links from Portsmouth.You can travel from Waterloo to Portsmouth www.southwesternrailway.com., then by hover to Ryde where you can catch the small island train to Shanklin. From here you can get the bus direct to Ventnor and it's a short walk a street away to Titha's Cottage.

Shopping

  • Also well as the many eating establishments, there are plentiful coffees houses and places to pick up your breakfast artisan bread. There are three supermarkets in Ventnor but also a local butchers and green grocers. With the varierty of smaller gift shops and individual boutiques you won't need to venture far.
